Can the data on an iPhone be transferred onto a computer?
Owl asked:
I have had my iPhone for about 2 months. I have a lot of data on it, such as songs and contacts. I synced my iPhone with my computer, but my computer crashed and all of my data has been lost. Is there any way to transfer the data on my iPhone back onto my computer?

Most of your data can be saved simply by re downloadingg iTunes and creating a new backup. You can do this by right-clicking (ctrl click on Mac) on your iPhone under Devices and choose Backup. It could take up to 30 minutes. This backs up network information (wifi passwords for example), SMS text messages, photos etc.
After your back up you can transfer your purchased content from your iPhone to your computer. Here’s a link on how to do that:
Once these are both done, you’ll need to sync your contacts to the new computer. If you were syncing your contacts via Gmail or some other online source, you can skip this step. However, if you were syncing via Outlook or (in Vista) Windows Mail, you’ll need to create one “dummy” contact in either of those programs, then sync. Doing this will give you the option to “Merge” your contacts onto your computer, thus allowing you to back them up.
After doing all this, your new iTunes setup on your computer will be as close to your old one as you can get it, and most of your iPhone content will be backed up. Kinzel99
