I prefer iPad keyboard and can type faster on it. Ever since I got my iPad I have been using it for all the work that I used to do on laptop like creating hundreds of documents ,uploading to WebDAV servers,downloading, remote access, joining web conferences and entertainment. I have found as long as your work is not over complicated, iPad is more capable and faster than PC in many areas. And the nature of work you have I guess you need to work with computer for long hours in that case. iPad will be much more suitable because it's super light ,it never gets hot and you won't have to worry about hooking it to the power outlet. iPad might not be magical but it's battery is magical for sure. Even if you use iPad continuously , battery will easily lasts over 15 hours. iPad has all the book store in the world. On PC,You need to google about the bookstore and it will take time to find books but on iPad , all the bookstore including iBooks,kindle,B&N,Border and many more have made apps so it amazingly easy to find books of your interests. And in case you are not totally comfortable with on screen keyboard,you can get physical keyboard.
