I have a child who is diagnosed with pathological demand avoidance and asperger syndrome. The behaviours from the two conditions are quite different but do overlap. Living with a child with PDA can be a nightmare and really frustrating but at times it can be very rewarding. My daughter was diagnosed at the Elizabeth Newson centre in Nottingham where they specialize in this condition and how to support the child afterwards. To get a child diagnosed is quite difficult as some Primary Care Trusts will not recognise the diagnosis. You should first go to your GP and ask him for a referall to a clinical psychologist who will be better able to help you. Also you may have to wait ages for an appointment as these services tend to be very over-subscribed. Try the National Autistic Society website for more information. Good luck.
