How long does it take to get an iPad from the Apple store?

I have been thinking about getting an iPhone for awhile now, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on an 8GB iPhone. I have gone to the Apple store and used one that they have on diplay and also I do know someone with an iPhone and used hers and I am completely in love with it. I was just wondering if it was a good phone or not.
